A first edition, first printing published by Arthur Barker in 1934. With folding genealogical table. Bound in the original cloth, lightly mottled to the front board. SIGNED ‘Robert Graves/May 4/1934/’ to the front endpaper. Small stamp to the endpaper stating, teres atque rotundus ("In himself entirely smooth and round") - itself a quote from the Satires of Horace. The unclipped dust wrapper is edge-worn with some tears, though very little loss. Repaired tear to front panel. Very good+ in like unclipped wrapper. Exceptionally rare signed by the Author on the day of publication - his masterpiece.
