Richards, J. M. & Ravilious, Eric – High Street Country Life [Curwen Press]
A first edition, first printing published by Country life in 1938. Overall a very good+ copy. Small professional repair to the top of the spine. A little bruised to the lower corner. No inscriptions. One of only 2000 copies. The lithographic stones were kept for a possible reprint, but were destroyed when the Curwen Press was hit by a bomb in 1941, ruling out any post-war reprint of this book. Ravilious was appointed official War Artist in WWII and died when his plane was lost off the coast of Iceland in 1942. Individual lithographs from the book fetch high prices, causing dealers to break up damaged copies - this is therefore a much coveted book.
